Youth climate change movement coming to AucklandReader submitted
Brittany
It's a call for action, and an opportunity to shape the future. Hundreds of young people are preparing to answer that call, by joining forces to take action on climate change, in an event known as Power Shift NZ-Pacific 2012.
From December 7-9 in Auckland participants will hear from inspirational speakers, learn new skills, and be a part of launching a massive campaign for next year.
Power Shift NZ-Pacific 2012 is not a flash in the pan.
“Climate change is the defining issue of our generation, and our event will build on the experience of Power Shift events that have been held all over the world over the past 5 years – in India, Australia, America, Canada and the UK, mobilising more than 25,000 young people”, says one of the organisers, Emma Moon.
“If it’s anything like other Power Shifts around the world, it’s bound to be historic.”
Power Shift is being driven by a grass roots network of youth organisers. It is a collaboration project between 350.org (a global movement for action on climate change), Generation Zero (an organisation of young New Zealanders calling for better climate policies) and other individuals.
