Renewable energy through windReader submitted
Hi everyone
If you live on a larger property here, you are currently being encouraged to consider having a wind turbine / windmill erected to help generate renewable energy. I like the idea in theory, but would love to hear from someone who has actually done this. In particular I am wondering how much noise the wind turbine makes...

I think if you are thinking about having a wind turbine put in as a clean, green, renewable energy then please have a read of the link I've added.
I have recently discovered that wind turbines or specifically the magnets used in them require one of the rare earth minerals. This particular one is found only in China. Their mining practices leave a lot to be desired and have completely devastated the environment around the mines. These form of energy may be clean and green if you only look at NZ, but it is far from it if you look at where it comes from. www.windfarmaction.com/neodymium-mining.html

Wow...that was an eye opener, thanks very much Jo. I definitely won't be putting a wind turbine in now.
