Lightweight device allows you to recharge phones or equipment in the field.

If you’ve ever been out in the great outdoors – fishing, hunting, at the beach or just camping over summer – and been frustrated at your phone and gadgets running out of charge, then this portable wind turbine could be a saviour.

Designed and built in Iceland, the Trinity turbine weighs only 600g and packs away as a simple cylinder. When you need to stop and recharge anything with a USB port (that crucial GPS unit, for example) you simple unfurl the turbine’s blades, anchor its legs into the ground, and charge away.

A built-in lithium-ion battery has enough charge to top up an iPhone 6 three or four times over, meaning you don’t need to have wind all the time to top up – and the Trinity has two blade configurations, one for low winds and one for high.

Costing around $600, it could become a crucial part of any outdoor person’s equipment.
