Upcycled container café turns heads.
A rusting shipping container destined for the scrapheap has been turned into a café by two eco-conscious entrepreneurs in Northland’s Waipu. Kelly Gibney and partner Luke Williams were inspired by the Restart mall made of shipping containers in central Christchurch, and other clever upcycling ideas that popped up in the garden city after the earthquakes.
“Little Red is fitted out all in Trade Me finds, begged and foraged materials and self-designed,” says Kelly. It’s amazing what a coat of paint and a tidy-up can do!”
