Make an upcycled kitchen organiser
Lennox Woodcraft
This is the most simple and cost effective way to store those fiddly bits and pieces in your bathroom, office, kitchen or children’s bedroom. A line-up of funky old jars attached to a piece of wood – what could be easier! This storage system will happily hold pens and pencils, kitchen utensils, cotton buds and toothbrushes, the list of uses is endless. We found our Agee jars at the local op-shop and purchased the other materials at a DIY store for under $10. Why not whip a few up for cost-effective Christmas presents? We’re sure they will be well received. This project is suited for the most novice DIYer.
You’ll need
- 1 x piece of wood – ply works best but anything flat will do just fine
- 3 x Agee jars
- 3 x hose clips
- 2 x triangle picture hooks
- 2 x small picture nails
- 3 x screws
- Paint – a test-pot is enough. We used Resene Colourwood Interior Woodstain, supplied courtesy of Resene
- Tools required
- Paintbrush
- Screwdriver or power drill
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
Your step-by-step guide
Step 1
Paint your wood with your chosen stain – allow to dry completely.
Step 2
Turn wood over and attach your two triangle picture hooks – measure from the top edge so they’re attached at the same level, which will help it hang evenly.
Step 3
On the front, measure where the hose clips/jars will be placed so they’re spaced evenly.
Step 4
Pre-drill holes where the hose clips will be screwed on.
Step 5
Screw the hose clips to your piece of wood.
Step 6
Slip glass jars into the hose clips and tighten – this can be done easily by hand.
Step 7
Place two nails on the wall where your unit will go, and mount the unit – it’s now ready to be used!
