Loggers can't escape Google watchdog
Green Ideas editorial team
A new service launched by Google aims to wipe out illegal logging and monitor deforestation in a way never before possible.
The world’s last great forests and jungles are usually far beyond the eyes of the law, and cover difficult terrain, so it has been virtually impossible until now to prevent unchecked clear-felling.
However, Google’s latest tool, Global Forest Watch, monitors tree losses and gains in near-real time across the entire planet, and is already being used by indigenous protestors to monitor logging in the Amazon jungle.
