The island hideaway of the Bounty mutineers will be at the heart of a huge new marine reserve
Britain will protect vast area of ocean.

We know about Pitcairn from the mutiny on the Bounty tale: when Captain Bligh was kicked off his boat in 1789, the crew – led by Fletcher Christian – hid on the remote Pacific isle of Pitcairn, where their descendants still live today.

Yet today the islands will be home to another, more natural, bounty: Britain has the declared the ocean around the island group will become the world’s largest marine reserve, allowing fish and sea creatures the chance to flourish in an area the size of France and Germany combined.
