Lolly wrapper 'recycling' launching in NZ Reader submitted

Lolly-wrapper-'recycling'-launching-in-NZ

Just read an article in the Herald this morning about a company launching in NZ today that salvages non-recyclables and turns them into new products. Internationally they salvage things like cigarette butts (which they turn into industrial products, such as plastic pallets, and any remaining tobacco gets reworked into tobacco composting), and plastic packaging (which they turn into all sorts of things like bags, pencil cases, toys etc).

In NZ they will be salvaging lolly wrappers, and they do it by getting us, the general public, to send wrappers to designated collection points. In addition to collecting them up and turning them into new items, they will also donate 2 cents to a school/charity.

Sounds like a fine idea to me! Here's the Herald's article: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10904691, and TerraCycle's website: http://www.terracycle.com/en-US/.
