Sculpture raises awareness of national river pollution
The Love Project
Media release from The Love Project
The ephemeral sculpture commissioned by Phoenix Organics was revealed to the public this month as part of The Love Project’s community planting day held in Anzac Drive Reserve, Christchurch. Speaking about the unveiling, Marketing Manager of Phoenix Organics, Steve Cook says that the intention of creating this sculpture was to raise our collective consciousness about river pollution in New Zealand.
“We commissioned Martin Hill and Philippa Jones to create this piece in order to help raise awareness about the work that Sustainable Coastlines is doing throughout the country and to empower communities to clean up rivers through The Love Project’s riparian planting days.
We’re proud to be working with Sustainable Coastlines for a second year running and hope this project continues to inspire our customers to look after New Zealand’s rivers and coastlines.”
“From day one we’ve been committed to sustainability, recycling all unused cardboard and glass. We’re also proud to only use organic ingredients in our drinks, which are grown without the use of fungicides, insecticides or soluble fertilisers,” adds Cook.
This year, Sustainable Coastlines’ goal is to plant over 7,500 trees from June to September to help keep New Zealand’s river water quality clean and free from pollutants.
The Love Project community planting days, held in Northland, Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, Waikato and Nelson run from 5 June to late September.
The Love Project celebrates the beauty of our rivers and oceans in New Zealand, informs Kiwis about river pollution and protecting our waterways, and aims to reduce the amount of pollutants entering rivers throughout the country.
