Breaking it down

Will you save the world by using biodegradeable wash cloths and packaging? Maybe not. Would the world be a better place if all companies followed Chux’s lead? Absolutely.

Kids’ books

Children’s author Nikki Slade Robinson produces lovely stories with a sustainability theme – we were especially taken with That’s Not Junk!, Munkle Arvur and the Bod and In Love with Moko. Available in Bookstores, or via online stores such as Wheelers, Fishpond and Mighty Ape

New fiction

The first novel by London writer Melissa Harrison, Clay is a lyrical tale that shows how beautiful the natural world can be – even in the heart of one of the world’s great cities. Bloomsbury, RRP $36.99 www.claynovel.com

It’s a wrap

Reusable sandwich wrappers are a great way to pack a school lunch without creating waste. 4MyEarth and Ginger Pye are New Zealand companies creating bright, stylish (plus BPA and phthalate-free) wrappers.

A proper effort

While calling ‘chips’ ‘crisps’ seems rather British, we were impressed to hear that the Proper Crisps delivery van runs on old chip oil! Oh and the chips are so tasty they should be illegal. $4.50 per 150gm bag

Balmy weather

Hot days mean going barefoot – and all the scrapes, scratches and cuts that come with. We like Mossop’s Daily Aid balm for its soothing effect, nice smell, and all-natural honey-based ingredients. Plus Mossop’s Honey is a small family-run Kiwi business – thumbs up!
Visit www.greenideas.co.nz for the chance to win one of five pots of Mossop’s Daily Balm.
